January 6, 2017 is the last day to submit public comments about special education services in Texas public schools!

Happy New Year everyone! Back in October, I posted about Texas public schools limiting special education services due to an arbitrary 8.5% cap. You can read about it here. Well the US Department of Education launched an investigation into this. I should have kept better track of this. In December, there were listening sessions held across the state in Dallas, Houston, El Paso, Austin, and Edinburg. Those who are not able to attend a listening session may submit written comments on an OSERS Blog. OSERS is the US Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services. OSERS and the Texas Education Agency (TEA) are interested in hearing from the public, including parents, family members, students, advocates, school personnel and other stakeholders. This blog will be open for comments from December 5, 2016 through January 6, 2017.

So far there are 345 comments! If you have a story to share as a parent, student, teacher, therapist, or just as a concerned citizen, SUBMIT YOUR COMMENTS TODAY!
